While the numbers of birds arriving is high I have been trying to get some photos of the Starlings coming into roost at Aberystwyth pier. The first try produced some reasonably colours in the sky and a small flock of birds. But as usually happens when I go with my camera the birds dived straight into the roost without putting on a display. Tens of thousands of birds arrived over a 20 minute or so period, but the most in view at any one time was only a few thousand. This only to be expected really, on a cool evening with no predators in sight it is better to be in the roost than flying around.
On my second visit the sky was overcast with some drizzle. The first quarter or so of the birds to arrive did fly around for a while and did some ‘murmuration’ before roosting, the later birds though went straight into the roost under the pier.
